A New Look

While I am anxiously and semi-patiently awaiting the arrival of the UPS truck and my first order of goodies from the new Stampin' Up! catalog, I've decided to give my website a new look.  As you can see, I've updated the banner and have updated my photo.

Colleen2

Since the previous photo had been taken, my hair has grown considerably and I've lost over 25 lbs.  Thus, it was time for a new picture.  The new photo was taken yesterday by my husband at the local conservatory.  This past holiday weekend was so rainy and dreary, I thought that a trip to the conservatory to take pictures what just what we needed!  We ended up spending several hours, and hubby took about 100 pictures!  He then got home, when through all of the pictures and decided that he only had 4 good ones.  I guess that's the joy of digital photography...can you take tons of pictures in order to actually have a few great pictures.  Once he finishes working on the few he decided were worthy of saving, I'll print some out and turn them into note cards which I'll share.

A Banner Fourth

Fourth-of-July-Banner

Today I wanted to share the last of my projects for the upcoming Fourth of July Celebration in our neighborhood.  I have been working on this banner in my mind for the past week or so, and tried and tossed several prototypes, but with the help of my DS, of all people, I came up with this version.  It used NO rubber stamps, just card stock a punch and a few of my Big Shot Dies.

I tried out several variations on the traditional red-white-blue theme, only to return to the tried and true combination of Real Red, Brilliant Blue and Whisper White card stock.

Banner-U

The star banners were made using the Serif Essentials Alphabet, Scallop Circle #2, and the Stampin’ Up! exclusive Pennant dies with my Big Shot machine.  The stars were punched using the smaller of the two Star punches from Stampin’ Up!

 Banner-R

For the striped banners, I cut 1/2" strips of Whisper White card stock and layered it over the Real Red banner.  Like the star banners, I used the Serif Essentials Alphabet, Scallop Circles #2, and the Pennant dies for the Big Shot.

After I finished each of the pennants, I strung them together with a long piece of Real Red Organdy ribbon (which unfortunately Stampin' Up! discontinued quire awhile ago, but I still have tons left over from my Christmas cards that year!)

Now that I am done, I can sit back and relax with my new Catalog and enjoy the holiday weekend, but before you do, don't forget to stop back here tomorrow for a link to the brand new 2009-2010 Idea Book and Catalog.  It is wonderful.  If you have not received your copy and would like to order one, I still have several copies left from my initial shipment and more on the way.  Just drop me an email and let me know.

Inspiration in the Neighborhood

College-Hill-SignRecently our neighborhood erected several new

  • signs pointing the directions to the business district.  As soon as I saw the new signs, my mind thought about the Little Leaves Sizzlet die that I have and how similar it is to the leaves on the sign.

  • The new signs gave immediately started my mind to create a card based upon the design and color scheme.  While this pciture is a bit washed out, the sign background is nearly Bravo Burgundy and the leaves are somewhere between Certainly Celery and Mellow Moss.

So, using the sign as inspiration, here's what I have created...

Inspired-Great-Friend

The card base is Bravo Burgundy, the leaves Certainly Celery and the medallion is Whisper White stamped with Bravo Burgundy and Certainly Celery classic ink and a Bravo Burgundy Stampin' Write Marker.

The other supplies I used include: Little Leaves Sizzlet, and Matchbox die with the Big Shot Machine, Great Friend stamp set, the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig, and removable tape.

Great-Friend-Close-Up

Here's a close-up of the medallion.  To create this, after punching the piece with the Matchbox die, I used removeable tape and taped it down to my stamping surface.  Next, using the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig I stamped with outline from Great Friends and Bravo Burgundy classic ink.  Next I inked up the sentiment stamp with Certainly Celery classic ink and then used colored over "friend" with a Bravo Burgundy Stampin' Write Marker to make the word stand out a bit more.

Today, I encourage to look around and see what inspires you.  It might a layout like my project today, a color scheme to copy, or something,  In any case, let the inspiration come to you.

Happy Stampin'
